Les voyages
A CREATION BY THE XY COLLECTIVE IN SITU,
DESIGNED FOR PUBLIC SPACES
He took one step at a time without knowing where he would place the next.
As he turned the corner, the wind swirled up the dust and its greedy mouth engulfed the space in its entirety. He started to run, hoping to take flight from one moment to the next, but the cobblestones by the river bank were slippery and his flailing arms could not keep him upright. As he fell he understood that he was heavier than his dream and in that moment he loved the weight which had toppled him.
With Les Voyages, 18 acrobats from the Collective proposed to spend a week in public spaces, using only their physical presence and with the word “carry” as their banner – they were able to reinvent this universally-shared gesture. A veritable immersive experience on a truly local level, whether on a street corner, in a square or out in nature… to offer and live a brief suspension of reality that would change how people viewed their everyday life and environment.
To “lighten” or uplift the world both in the literal and figurative sense, to then invite members of the public to actively celebrate in the grand acrobatic finale.
Two photographers took it in turns to record the experience – Samuel Buton and Fabrice Dimier, providing their unique take of events, providing a visual storytelling of each Voyage and the way in which they left their mark on local people.
